It's Calving Season!

It's been a busy spring for us at Rebel Meadows Ranch. We started out our calving season strong with our first baby arriving on St. Patrick's Day! We of course named her Patty. We have since added 18 more healthy babies to the ranch. Aren't they cute!?

We began our journey with a new herd of four 50% South Poll heifers and 20 bred 50% South Poll cows in September of 2024. We bought the 20 bred cows from a fellow regenerative rancher who was looking to downsize. These cows were all bred to deliver in the winter. Our first calves arrived in mid December and we continued calving until February. We quickly discovered that we never wanted to do that again on purpose! It was a fridgidly cold winter and the stress and extra work it put on us was definitely not ideal. Thankfully this is something that is easily changed.

So to change up when they have their babies we decided to put a bull with them at the end of June. We bought a wonderful South Poll bull last spring and we affectionley named him Bruno Mars. Why? Well, he's short, brown and the ladies love him! ha ha. He's a great tempered bull and we love him too. He's so gentle and basically acts like a giant pet! But in all seriouness, Mr. Bruno did a great job with the Moo Crew ladies and this spring we had a beautiful bounty of South Poll calves. Calving in the spring is a 100 times easier! No freezing calf ears, or half frozen ponds for calves to fall in!

We, of course, are still learning day by day and slowly implementing regenerative practices into our program. Thanks for following along on our journey to bring the best beef directly to you, the customer!

And don't forget...Be a rebel and eat a steak!
